PS System modular shelving by Preben Sørensen 1960s

A selection of modular wall units from the popular PS System designed by Preben Sørensen in the early 1950s and manufactured in Denmark by Randers Møbelfabrik.

This supremely versatile system can be configured in countless combinations with each of the shelves and cabinets independently hung on metal pins inserted into holes along the vertical rails.

This combination comprises 4 x 1.99m wall rail; 3 x 20cm deep book shelves with brass suspension arms; 3 x 25cm deep book shelf with brass suspension arms; 1 x 4-drawer unit 45cm d x 50cm h; 1 x sliding door cabinet 35cm d x 35cm h; 1 x sliding glass door cabinet 35cm d x 35cm h; hanging pins and shelf supports. All units are 80cm wide. Overall width 244cm.

Good vintage condition. Some minor marks and wear consistent with age including some wear to the left-hand corners of the drawer module (see photos). All original brass shelf supports. The brass has been left unpolished with a soft patina but could be polished if required. Three shelf boards have been replaced using board from another Danish shelving system of the same era. They are 2mm thinner but otherwise match the originals.

Other sets of PS units are also available and modules could be combined on a mix-and-match basis to create a bespoke combination.
