Danish Royal System modular shelving by Poul Cadovius 1960s

A collection of units from the iconic Royal System modular shelving series originally designed by Poul Cadovius in 1948 and manufactured by his own company.

This pioneering shelf system won the gold medal at the Finland Furniture Fair in 1950 and silver medal in Milan in 1957.

Finished in teak with iroko wall rails and black steel shelf hangers. This collection includes a bureau cabinet unit with a basket-weave effect drop front. Inside there is a compartment with teak letter-rack dividers and four small drawers with a distinctive finger-joint detail. There is also an open-fronted cabinet with dividers for storing vinyl LPs and a three-drawer module. Other cabinets as listed below.

The modules and fittings are in good original condition. Some scratches and marks consistent with age (see photos). Working lock and original key. Upper drawer has been repaired at the front left corner. The wall rails have been replaced.

This set includes: 5 x 180cm wall rails; 1 x open-front vinyl storage cabinet 42.5h x 38d; 1 x bureau cabinet 42.5h x 37.5d; 1 x large double door cabinet 51.5h x 40d ; 1 x sliding door cabinet 42.5h x 38d; drawer module 42.5h x 38d; 1 x sliding door cabinet 33.5h x 24d; 1 x glass door cabinet 33.5h x 24d; 4 x 20cm deep shelves; 1 x 24cm deep shelf; 1 x 30cm deep shelves; 1 x 40cm deep shelf. Steel shelf hangers,pins and supports. All units 80cm wide. Overall width 324.5cm.
