Ercol writing desk

SOLD

Vintage mid-century elm and beech writing desk No.437/439 by Ercol 1950s.

A compact and stylish mid-century writing desk made of solid elm set on tapered beechwood legs.
Designed by Lucian Ercolani and made by Ercol in High Wycombe in the 1950s. Manufactured to the highest standards using traditional methods: the exposed intricate dovetail joints are a particular feature of the side panels along with the distinctively grained elm.

These charming petite desks with their gentle organic lines are highly desirable and sought-after.

In good vintage condition. There are some small marks and blemishes; and at some point in its life someone took it upon themselves to paint the desk white completely obliterating the wonderful natural woodgrain. This has been removed but there are some deeply ingrained remnants creating a faint ‘limed’ effect in places. As you can see from the photos, this does not detract significantly from the appearance of the bureau and may even be seen as a distinct vintage ‘character’.

Approximate dimensions (cm): 69w x 46d x 94h
