About Vinegar Works Vintage

Vinegar Works Vintage sells Mid-century Modern furniture. We mostly present pieces from the heyday of British and Scandinavian furniture makers in the 1950s and 60s alongside some Art Deco/Art Moderne elegance from the 1930s and 40s, plus a little bit of retro 70s furniture funk.

We choose pieces that share simplicity of design and quality of construction: modern (and Modernist) antiques whose qualities have stood the test of time and fit perfectly with contemporary life. At the same time, we seek out furniture that can bring a touch of retro fun or vintage chic to your home. Our ever-changing selection includes pieces by renowned British makers of the last century: Gomme (G Plan), Ercol, Beithcraft, Elliotts of Newbury (EON), Fyne Ladye, Greaves & Thomas, Gordon Russell, Vanson, White &Newton, Archie Shine, Merrow Associates, McIntosh, William Lawrence, Harris Lebus; and designers such as Tom Robertson, Richard Hornby, Betty and David Joel, Peter Hayward, Val Rossi and VB Wilkins.

We have a particular interest in Swedish and Danish Mid‑century furniture design: pieces made by Mogens Kold, Frem Røjle, Troeds Bjärnum, Tingströms, Dux, Dyrlund, and Vinde Møbelfabrik; with designs by Nils Jonsson, Yngve Ekström, Folke Ohlsson and Egon Østergaard.

Sideboards are the core of our collection – credenzas, highboards, lowboards, all shapes and sizes. From being overlooked in recent years, they are now some of the most sought‑after pieces of furniture and make a sound investment for the future. A sideboard is the perfect way to introduce some vintage style to your home and a beautiful, practical storage solution too.
We specialise in restoring Danish paper-cord chair seats and usually have fine examples of dining chairs by Niels Møller, Arne Hovmand Olsen and Børge Mogensen for sale.

We stock a wide variety of other vintage and retro furniture too: dining tables and chairs, bookcases, cocktail cabinets and coffee tables. Teak is the classic wood for this era, but we also have items in opulent retro rosewood finishes and fine walnut veneers.

We offer practical vintage furniture that’s ready for its new home. Where necessary, we carefully bring pieces back to their optimum condition: making small restorations and sympathetically reviving old, tired finishes. We use finest quality Danish oil and shellac polishes to bring out the natural beauty of the hardwoods which form the heart of Mid-century design. We aim to show any repairs or blemishes clearly in our photographs and any significant restorations will be noted in the description.
We started out in a little workshop in part of the old Sarson’s vinegar factory by the River Severn and we have now moved to larger premises in an old shoe factory in rural Carmarthenshire. We kept the Vinegar Works name though, ‘Shoes’n’sideboards’ just didn’t have the same ring… You’re welcome to come and view any of our pieces ‘in the flesh’ but please get in touch to make an appointment.
