‘Hamilton’ sideboard by Robert Hertitage for Archie Shine c.1958
A long sideboard designed in the late 1950s by Robert Heritage for high-end manufacturer Archie Shine as part of the ‘Hamilton’ range.
This particular design won a Council of Industrial Design ‘Design of the Year’ award in 1958 and an example is kept in the collection of the V&A museum.
This finely crafted, elegant credenza has two wide rosewood-veneered doors with trumpet-shaped brass handles opening onto cupboards with cut-away shelves. The same handles are set into oval recesses on the reeded fronts of the four wide teak drawers. The upper drawer is lined with green baize and has fixed dividers for cutlery.
The top has been restored and re-lacquered.
