English Art Deco wardrobe quilted maple 1930s
SOLD
A very fine 1930s English Art Deco triple wardrobe with bow-fronted doors finished in stunning quilted maple veneers creating a distinctive rippled-water effect.
Walnut banding on the plinth, cornice, and door jambs. Chrome push-button catches and door stays. The handles are made from coral-coloured bakelite with chrome fittings.
The main full-length hanging area lies behind the left-hand and centre doors and has a single shelf across the top, two shoe rails at the bottom and a mirror inside the outer door.
The right-hand door opens to reveal a series of mahogany drawers and shelves. The upper drawers have haberdasher style glass fronts and bakelite handles in a black and white diamond pattern. Two deep storage drawers at the bottom.
Maker unknown but the style and quality of cabinetmaking is consistent with pieces of the era made by Hille or Lou & Harry Epstein.
The exterior has been re-polished. Small marks and tiny repairs consistent with age. A little loss of silvering on the mirror. The left-hand handle has a historic repair at the bottom (see photo). The original escutcheons have been replaced.
Approx. dimensions (cm): 187h x 153w x 60d

The wardrobe is designed to be dismantled into two main sections together with separate plinth and cornice for easier and safer transport and handling and this is how it will be shipped.
