1930s Art Nouveau walnut wardrobe Austria/Hungary

SOLD

A striking 1930s wardrobe

with a shelf and full-width rail. Finished in sumptuously grained walnut veneer. It was apparently imported to the UK from Austria in 1938 although the Art Nouveau styling of the handles, solid quality of the construction, and the Hungary stamp on the metal fittings suggest Hungarian origin for the whole piece. Original lacquered finish and distinctive bakelite handles in the form of nymphs. Sits on a base with castors.
Small area of discolouration and damage inside at the bottom left; minor mark in the lacquer on the front; repair to the right hand handle (all pictured) otherwise in very good condition.
A smaller matching tallboy is also available.

Approx. dimensions (cm): 189h x 122.5w x 58d
