J39 chairs ‘Folkestole’ by Børge Mogensen for FDB Møbler
A set of 6 Model J39 chairs designed by Børge Mogensen in 1947 and produced in Denmark in the 1960s by FDB Møbler.
Taking Kaare Klint’s 1936 Church Chair as his starting point, Mogensen pared back the design to the bare essentials, inspired by the functional simplicity of American Shaker furniture. The design balances traditional build with modernism, simplicity with comfort. This ‘people’s chair'(folkestol) as it came to be known, is an enduringly popular model which fits easily into modern and traditional settings alike.
Fully restored solid beechwood frames with new laced papercord seats woven in the traditional pattern.
Stamped on the frame underneath the cord.
