Ercol Model 355 studio couch 1960s

A classic Ercol daybed/studio couch Model 355 with a blonde beech and elm frame and new teal-coloured wool upholstery.

Designed in 1958 by Lucian Ercolani for the family company, Ercol in High Wycombe. This example was made during the original production run that continued through the 1960s until 1976.
The frame is made from beech wood with turned legs and steamed bentwood armrests in a natural blonde lacquered finish. The long, removable backrest is the star feature of the design. It’s made from solid elm with the striking fluid grain patterns that made this wood a traditional favourite for English furniture-makers. For more comfort, however, there is a set of back cushions and a pair of bolsters to soften the edges. All the upholstery is new with modern fire-retardant foam and new covers. The webbing has been fully restored with new Atlas rubberised webbing.

The colour appears more blue in the photographs but is actually teal. A small fabric sample can be sent if required.

There are some small marks and patination consistent with the age of this piece including some minor historic worm holes (see photos), but it is in good restored condition.
