‘Roundette’ dining set by Hans Olsen for Frem Røjle Denmark 1960s
SOLD
Vintage dining table and 4 chair set in teak and afromosia wood. ‘Roundette’ model designed by Hans Olsen and produced by Frem Røjle in Denmark in the 1960s.
In this ingenious, classic design the four chairs fit snugly underneath the table when not in use with the swell backs forming a continuous band of richly grained afromosia wood around the table. The table has a butterfly extension mechanism to expand from 4 to 6 places. A stunning circular dining set, particularly where space is at a premium.
All the chairs have been fully restored and reupholstered to meet modern fire regulations with new fire-retardant foam and black vinyl. The table and chair frames have been cleaned and re-oiled with Danish oil. There is a very slight tonal variation between main leaves and extension as is usual due to different exposure to daylight over the decades. Light signs of wear and small marks consistent with age (see photos).
Approx. dimensions (cm): 120 diameter (extending to 171) x 74 high
Hans Olsen (1919-92) studied with Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy in the 1940s. He established his own design studio in 1953 but also produced disctinctive designs for Bramin and Frem Røjle.
