Model 4020 sideboard by Ib Kofod Larsen for G-plan 1962

Large teak sideboard Model no. 4020 by Ib Kofod Larsen for G-plan Danish Design 1962

Lots of storage in a stunning minimalist credenza by a leading 20th-century Danish designer.

This long, 7ft 8inch sideboard has five wide drawers next to two large cupboards with adjustable shelves. The top drawer is lined with grey baize and has beechwood dividers for cutlery storage. The beautifully simple design is finished in teak with fine square handles.

The original handles have been replaced by hand-made copies in oak at some point and a lock was fitted to the right-hand door which has since been removed, filled on the inside and the veneer at the edge of the door replaced. Right-hand cupboard shelf has been replaced. Good general condition otherwise with light signs of wear consistent with age.

The G-Plan Danish Design range was created for E Gomme in 1962 by Ib Kofod Larsen. It was a premium flagship range of furniture that was produced in relatively small numbers and with the highest quallity construction: the precisely designed and executed dovetail drawer joints are testament to this. Combined with an elegant simplicity and beautifully proportioned design, this has led to these pieces becoming some of the most desirable and sought after mid-century furniture for the modern home.
