Lebus sideboard

SOLD

Fantastic Mid-century Modern sideboard made from solid and veneer teak in the late 1960s by Harris Lebus of London.

This design (No. 7641) appears in the 1965 Lebus catalogue. Four central drawers with the upper one divided for cutlery; a double-door cupboard on the left and a drop-down cocktail cabinet on the right with glass shelves and a small drawer. Chromed metal handles.

Still bears the original manufacturer’s showroom label. The Lebus company was a major manufacturer of domestic furniture in the UK during the 20th Century, based in Tabernacle St. in Shoreditch before moving to much larger purpose-built premises in Tottenham. There is a fantastic curated archive of photographs and articles outlining the history of the company at harrislebus.com

Every effort has been made to restore the sideboard to optimum condition for modern use, but please bear in mind that this is an original 1960s cabinet and it may bear some light marks consistent with half a century of love and use which are an integral part of its story and vintage charm. The top has been re-finished with several coats of Danish oil to bring out the natural wood grain, though there remains an area of slight discolouration (please see photo); but overall this is a stunning piece of furniture that would grace any mid-century styled home.

Approx dimensions (cm): 186(w) x 39(d) x 74(h)
