Long maple coffee table 1950s
SOLD
British mid-century long coffee table finished in maple 1950s fantastic quality.
This model of coffee table is frequently attributed to the major Danish designer Finn Juhl, who designed a similar piece with a raised lip for France & Son, Denmark in the early 1950s. It shares traits with the Juhl table; and also with the coffee tables designed by Edvard and Tove Kindt-Larsen for France & Son and Grete Jalk for Poul Jeppesen. It is also of extremely high-quality manufacture. However, the combination of choice of finish here, maple (plus I have the same design in walnut), and the length (just shy of 5ft) would seem to suggest the work of a British furniture maker of the mid-20th Century. Given the quality of manufacture and refined, elegant Danish Modern design, it is a piece most likely to have been sold through Heal & Son in London.
Long, ‘surfboard’ top finished in figured maple veneer with tapering raised edges; tapered teak legs with fine stretchers.
It is in very good condition for a 1950s table with a tiny amount of veneer loss at the end being the only flaw worth mentioning (see last photo).
