Rosewood ‘floating’ sideboard & desk 1970s

SOLD

A stylish retro 1970s set of ‘floating’ modules creating an uncluttered office space on a wall. Very high-quality cabinetmaking finished in rosewood veneer and with a chamfered detail on all the edges.

There are four units: sideboard with sliding doors and adjustable shelves; desk with pigeonhole shelves and a separate backboard; chest of four drawers; and bookcase with adjustable shelves.

The outer sliding door of the sideboard has an ingenious cut-out to accommodate the handle of the other door when open and creates an interesting design detail.

Unlabelled, and the maker is as yet unknown but the imperial sizing indicates manufacture in Britain – or at least for the UK market. The furniture is very similar in style to the floating units designed by Robert Heritage for Archie Shine, which imitate those created by Arne Vodder in the 1960s. The shape of the handles of the drawers is the same as on some Alfred Cox pieces of the same era. This could be another candidate for producer. The hand-built quality of the work is at least equal to that of those well-known makers. The absence of label may well be due to these units being made to order for a customer or for sale through a high-end store such as Heals.
The units are supplied with new hanger rails for installation in their new home.

Approx. dimensions (cm): sideboard 142w x 41d x 51h; drawers 81.5w x 41d x 51h; desk 91w x 41d x 10h (backboard 22.5h); bookcase 81w x 20.5d x 91h
