English Modernist sideboard in Indian Lauel by David Joel 1950s
SOLD
An elegant sideboard/cabinet hand-made in the workshops of David Joel, Kingston-upon-Thames in the early 1950s, Simple uncluttered lines that cross the styles of Art Deco and Modernism finished in striking Indian laurel veneers. The sliding doors have inset handles in a contrasting red wood and open onto two cupboards: one with two removable shelves on the left and a cupboard on the right with a shelf and an internal cutlery drawer lined in green baize.
In good condition: the exterior has been re-polished to enhance the beauty of the laurel. Some light scratch marks and tiny veneer repairs. Some bottle ‘footprints’ in the bottom of the right-hand cupboard – testament to its use and enjoyment as a cocktail cabinet.
