Ash & birch dining table Nordiska Kompaniet, Sweden 1950s

SOLD

A blonde wood dining table produced and sold by Sweden’s prestigious Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in the 1950s.

The table top is finished in ash veneer over a pine core with a marquetry border detail. The tapered legs made from solid birch wood can unbolted for transport and storage. There are two drawers with original locks and keys along one of the long sides of the table.

Stamped with maker’s mark underneath.

The table top has been recently restored and re-lacquered. Slight undulation in the table top but not noticeable in normal use. Small age-related marks and wear.

A matching carver chair and three side chairs all with restored Danish cord seats are also available.

Nordiska Kompaniet was created by merger in 1902 in Stockholm and still occupies the building designed for it by Ferdinand Boberg in 1915. NK set out to be the premier department store for luxury goods and interiors in Sweden to rival stores in London and Paris. NK specialised in luxury furniture in the 1930s producing many designs by Axel Einar Hjorth. It later developed a more popular modern range of furniture, Triva created by Lena Larsson, Elias Svedberg and Erik Worts.
