Swedish teak sideboard ‘Gigant’ by Nils Jonsson for Troeds 1960s
SOLD
A long ‘Gigant’ model sideboard designed by Nils Jonsson for Troeds, Sweden c.1960
The Gigant is an extended version of the popular Trento (which we also have for sale). Despite the formidable name and 220cm length, this is a gentle giant with a slim profile and a simplicity of line that is not overbearing.
Extremely good original condition with only very minor signs of wear and a lovely patina to the wood.
Exterior made from solid and veneer teak of a golden honey colour with recessed handles and tapered round legs. The interior is finished in blonde birch. Four sliding doors open to reveal cupboards at either with adjustable chamfered shelves. Four drawers in the centre, the upper drawer lined in royal blue baize with dividers and a sliding tray inset.
Original maker’s stamp.
Clean architectural lines and exceptionally high-quality design and manufacture by renowned Swedish furniture makers Troeds Bjarnum. The Troeds company was founded in 1934 by Svea and Hugo Troeds and produced high-end furniture throughout the middle of the 20th Century. During the 1960s they were the principal manufacturers of the designs of Nils Jonsson at the height of his creative output.
